Once a subweapon is acquired, the subweapon's icon is shown on the top left of the screen. Using the subweapon expends MANA which is a slowly regenerating meter underneath the health bar. MANA regeneration can be increased by activating MAGIC on the power up bar. It can also be fully refilled by activating MANA on the power up bar. Acquiring a new subweapon will replace the old subweapon, so be careful when picking up items!

Extra lives are indicated by a number on the top right of the game screen. Lives can be lost by losing all the health orbs, falling into pits, or touching other hazards. If a death occurs, the player is sent back to the beginning of the area where the life was lost. Once the life counter reaches zero, dying one more time will result in a game over. Selecting continue will start the player at the very beginning of the current stage. Extra lives can be gained by collecting 100 gems or picking up a holy goblet.

The power up bar is located on the bottom of the game screen. Sections of the bar can be activated by collecting soul orbs. Soul orbs may be dropped by defeated enemies. Gargoyle statues usually hold high value soul orbs and torches may occasionally contain them. When a section of the power up bar is flashing red, pressing the power up button will grant that power up.
STAGE LAYOUT
Collect soul orbs to access sections of the power bar. When a section is flashing red, it may be activated by pressing the power up button.
GEM COUNTER
POWER UP
Press left and right to move. Analog controls allow for walking and running. Digital allows only running. Move speed may be increased by activating SPEED in the power up bar.
HEALTH
Attack with a quick sword slash. The sword may be powered up twice by activating POWER in the power up bar. These stronger attacks have increased range and damage.
Each stage is subdivided into smaller areas. At the end of each stage, a powerful boss awaits. Defeat this evil entity and collect the stage key to proceed to the next stage!
JUMP:
SUBWEAPONS AND MANA
The gem counter is the number located on the top left of the game screen. Gems can be found by defeating enemies, breaking torches or gargoyle statues. Each gem type has a different value. If the gem counter reaches 100, an extra life is gained.

Health is indicated by ten orbs on the top of the game screen. Health is lost by touching enemies and other hazards. Some hazards like spikes and pits will kill instantly, so be careful! Once all the health is depleted, one life will be lost and the player will return to the beginning of the area. Health can be regenerated by either picking up health potions or activating LIFE on the power bar.

Press up or down while touching a ladder to begin climbing it. Attacking and using weapons are possible while on ladders. Drop from the ladder at any point by pressing jump.

Press down to crouch. Use the crouch to duck under projectiles, obstacles, and perform low attacks against smaller enemies.

RUN/WALK:
Jump into the air to avoid obstacles. A double jump may be performed by pressing jump in mid air. A triple jump may be accessed by activating JUMP in the power up bar. Jumping down from certain thin platforms is also possible by pressing down and jump simultaneously.
